 How To FAQs

Promoting Your Web Site

If you build it, they will come.  Well, not exactly....

You're looking to drive visitors to your web site.  There is lots of advice out there on how to do it -  some of it cheap, some of it free, some of it shockingly expensive.  Ask a room full of 10 so-called Internet experts how to get more web site 'hits', and you'll get 12 opinions.

We're pretty skeptical of the services that promise to put you at the top of 500 search engines for $29.95. Quadruple that price and we're even more skeptical.  More search engines isn't better.  You want quality search engine listings, not quantity.  There are some great Internet PR firms, but their services don't come inexpensively.  You get what you pay for. Getting a good position on a search engine is just plain hard work. And once you get there, you will need to follow up regularly and work to maintain your search engine ranking.  The good news is that promoting your web site *IS* easier to learn than learning to build a web site.

This section is our 2-cents worth.  The above links are some of the tools and resources we use at Acme Internet when we are presented with the task of promoting a web site.  You can use them too.  You've put a lot of effort into building your site.  You'll want to put as much effort into letting people know about it.
