Importing Files Into A FrontPage Web
The most important idea to keep in mind as you begin
to bring generic web pages into Microsoft®
FrontPage® is that pages of a web site are really
nothing more than text files with a .HTM extension. Opening text
files, .rtf files, or even MSWord files with FrontPage
automatically converts them into .HTM format. When these files
are saved they are automatically transmitted (by FrontPage) to
the Acme servers.
Here are the series of steps to follow:
- Using FrontPage Explorer and with your <Root
Web> open choose File -> Import
- You'll see a dialog similar to this:

- If the page you want to import is on your hard
drive choose the Add File button, then
navigate to it's location using the directory list that pops
up next. The Add Folder button allows you
to import all files of the selected directory.
- The From Web button is a powerful
option. It will let you import any page that exists anywhere
on the WWW. Even better, after you insert the URL of the
page you want to import, FrontPage offer these options:

Using the settings on this dialog will allow you to
import every page that is linked to your original...and every
page linked to that page....and to that one....and so
on. Caution: This can get huge. If you aren't
sure how many pages are linked to your original it's safer to
change the default of 5 levels to 2 or 3 levels. You can
always import more later if necessary.
