How Do I Get Started Web
Authoring With Microsoft®
FrontPage®
To connect to the FrontPage server you
will need three things:
-
Your username
-
Your password
-
Your URL / domain name.
There are two ways to implement your web
pages:
The First Way:
(If you have not
designed your pages, and want to use FrontPage, then this is the
best option.)
Open FrontPage Explorer.
Go to File, New, FrontPage Web.
It will ask what type of web. Choose a
template for your pages or just choose "Empty Web".
Click on ok.

It will ask for a webserver or file
location. Here you can either choose your hard drive, or your
web site domain name with ACME Information Services.
If you choose your hard drive, then you
can work on your page without being connected with your
Internet Service Provider the whole time.
If you choose your IP address or domain
name, then you will have to be connected to your ISP the
entire time. Do not put a name in for the new FrontPage web.
If you do, it will try to create a new directory in your web
site and will ask you for a username and password that has
Administrator permissions.
You should now see a new web in the
FrontPage Explorer that looks similar to this screenshot
section.

Go into folder view. To do this, click
on View (at the top), then click on Folder View.
Edit or create your web pages now with
the FrontPage editor. The only requirement is that the main
page, (the page you want people to see when they browse your
web site) be named index.html. You can rename a page by
clicking on the file name with the right button of the mouse
and then clicking on Rename with the left button of the mouse,
and typing in the new name (i.e. index.html).
When you have designed all your web
pages, you must now upload it to our server if you weren't
creating your pages online. The easiest way to do this is by
clicking on File, Publish FrontPage Web.
It will ask for the "Webserver or
File Location" put in your IP address or domain name
here. Once again, do not put anything in for the Name of
Destination FrontPage Web, this will try to put your pages in
a separate directory under your root web directory and will
ask for a user- name and password that has Administrator
permissions. If you are uploading your pages for the first
time then only check "Add to an existing FrontPage
Web" and click OK.
Anytime FrontPage asks for a username
and password that has Author permissions, simply put in your
username and password, the same ones you gave us when your
account was setup. Click OK.
Your pages will now be uploaded to our
server.
The Second Way:
(This way is for people
who have already designed their pages using another HTML
editor.)
Open FrontPage Explorer.
Go to File, Open FrontPage Web.
FrontPage will ask for the Web Server
or File Location.
Type you IP address or domain name
(i.e. 38.152.102.255, or www.mydomainname.com)
Click on the List Webs Button.
FrontPage will show a list of webs on your site, the only one
listed should be <Root Web>.
Highlight <Root Web> and click on
OK.
It will prompt you to put in a username
and password that has Author permissions. Type in your
username and password. Click on ok.
FrontPage Explorer will now open your
web site.
Now click on View, Folder View.
Click on the very top folder on the
left side, probably called http://www.mydomainname.com or
http://38.152.102.### (replace with your IP address).
Click on File, Import. FrontPage will
bring up a window asking to Add File or Add Folder.
Click on Add File.
It will then ask for the location of
the files that you want to upload. Point to the directory
where you have saved you web pages.

Select the files that you want to
upload. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key
while you click on the files. It will highlight those files
and list them in the "File name" box.
After you have selected all the files,
click on the "Open" button.
All the files you highlighted will be
uploaded to our server and will appear in the FrontPage
Explorer.
Always keep in mind that your main page
or home page must be named index.html. If it is not, anyone
that goes to your site will see a "404 Access
Forbidden" error. To rename the first page to index.html,
after it has been uploaded, right click on the file and then
left click on Rename, and type in index.html.
