Configuring Microsoft FrontPage Feedback
Forms
How the Microsoft®
FrontPage® 2000 and Microsoft®
FrontPage® 98 feedback forms actually forward e-mail
results to you is totally configurable by you while
working with the form in the FrontPage Editor. Just right-click
on the submit button and there are an assortment of
properties in there to tweak including: recipient address,
subject line, time stamp, results page, etc. Complete
descriptions of each property can be found in the FrontPage help
function within the program.
WHO IS webserver@acmeinternet.com
AND WHY AM I RECEIVING MAIL FROM THAT ADDRESS?
You may receive an e-mail from webserver@acmeinternet.com
when a visitor has filled out a feedback form on your web site.
It is the "server", more
specifically the FrontPage Server Extensions or a CGI script
that runs on the server, that sends the actual
email. If your web visitor did not type in a valid email
address in the email field on your feedback form, then this
default address is inserted instead.
HOW DO I REPLY TO A MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM A
FEEDBACK FORM?
Always check the REPLY TO address when
responding to e-mail messages received via a feedback form to
make sure you are replying to a valid e-mail address, and not to
the default web server address.
A good way to handle this when you create
your feedback form is to use the "form validation"
feature in FrontPage. Form validation can require the
visitor to fill in the e-mail address field before allowing him
or her to submit the form.
Therefore, once they have filled in their
correct e-mail address, you will receive form e-mail's with your
visitors reply-to address already conveniently in place.
Then, you can simply hit "reply" in your e-mail
software's menu options and reply to them directly when your
receive their form message.
