 How To FAQs

SETTING UP MICROSOFT OUTLOOK
blackdot.gif (800 bytes)

Outlook Express, XP and/or 2003

Select the following menu:

Tools --> Accounts --> Mail --> Add --> Mail

Enter the following information in the fields provided:

Your Name: Your Full Name
Email Address: user@yourdomain.com
Incoming Mail Server: imail.acmeinfo.com
Outgoing Mail Server: Your dialup ISP's SMTP Server or imail.acmeinfo.com
POP Account name: user@yourdomain.com
Password: Your password

Notes: You will need to obtain your dialup ISP's Outgoing mail (SMTP) server address.  Typically this is in the form of 'mail.yourdialupisp.com' or 'smtp.yourdialupisp.com'.  Your dialup ISP will provide this information to you.  Optionally, experienced users can configure Acme as their outgoing mail server using SMTP Authentication. (See SMTP Auth configuration info).

In Account name field you many also use the format "username%yourdomain.com" if you experience difficulties logging in as "username@yourdomain.com"

SMTP Authentication:
If you wish to use Acme's mail server 'imail.acmeinfo.com' as your outgoing SMTP server, you either need a dedicated IP address that we can grant access to, or a newer e-mail client that supports SMTP AUTH.  You would then check the option "My server requires authentication".  This configuration sends your username and encrypted password to our mail server before allowing you to send outgoing mail.  This provides for the tighter mail server security.

We have successfully tested SMTP AUTH with Netscape 4.05+, Outlook Express, Outlook '98/2000/XP/2003.  Sorry, it is not supported in older e-mail programs such as Eudora 3.0 and Netscape 3.0.  If you are not using a supported e-mail client, or if you are having difficulty configuring SMTP Authentication, you still have the less complicated options of using your dial-up ISP's SMTP server or our new web-messaging service for relaying outgoing mail.
