EMAIL ALIAS ADMINISTRATION
blackdot.gif (800 bytes)

An Email Alias is just that - a 'fake' mailbox that forewords mail to a 'real' mailbox.

For example, suppose you want all email that is sent to 'sales@yourdomain.com' to really go to your personal mailbox, 'you@yourdomain.com', or even another email address altogether such as 'you@aol.com', or 'you@hotmail.com'. You would simply create an alias called 'sales', and set it to point to 'you' (your primary email address). For example.

info@yourdomain.com -----(points to)----> you@yourdomain.com

Then, any email sent to info@yourdomain.com would be sent to you@yourdomain.com.

Suppose also, that you prefer to use your personal (ISP provided) email. You can set up an alias 'you@yourdomain.com' to foreword email to 'you@aol.com' or 'you@hotmail.com', like so:

you@yourdomain.com ------(points to)----> you@yourisp.com

ADDING EMAIL ALIASES

Adding email aliases to your domain is fast and easy. First, log into any mailbox that has 'Administrative Privileges' on your domain. By default, the only two accounts that have Administrative Privileges on your domain are:

root@yourdomain.com
you@yourdomain.com
(you@yourdomain.com is the first mailbox created when your account was setup - most likely your personal email box)

To administer users, click on the 'Options and Styles' pull-down menu.
Then click 'Alias Administration' (view diagram). From here, you can add, remove, or change users.

To Add an alias click the 'Add' button, and enter the necessary information (the name of the alias, what email address you want it to point to, etc.)
'Alias ID' is the username (the name in front of the @ symbol) of that alias email address. 'Destination' is the email address you want that email forwarded to.

To Remove an alias select the alias you want to remove (so it's highlighted), then click the 'Delete' button.

To Display properties of an alias (what email address that alias points to, etc.) select the user you want to view (so it's highlighted), then click the 'Display'.

To Modify properties of an alias, select the alias you want to change (so it's highlighted), then click the 'Modify'.

Forwarding an alias to more than one address:
You can specify that aliases 'forward' mail to more than one email address. Up to four addresses can be added, each on a separate line in the 'Destination' field.
