USING SSL - Creating Links to Secure Pages
LINKING TO YOUR SECURE ORDER
FORMS
When you link to any web pages stored in a directory
protected by SSL, or any other site, the link must start
with https:// (note the "s" after http)
Any links that take someone out of the
secure area must start with http:// instead. The https://
tells the system to open the site at the given address using SSL
(Secure Socket Layer). Any visitors to the site who are
not using a secure connection, whether it's due to not adding
the https:// or that have totally disabled secure connections,
will get an error that reads...
HTTP/1.0 403 Access Forbidden (Secure
Channel Required - This Virtual Directory
requires a browser that supports the
configured encryption options.)
If you wish to look at your pages
directly then you must also use the https:// in the url: line of
your browser.
IF YOU ARE USING A SHARED SECURE
SERVER DIRECTORY
Your Shared Secure Server account has many of the same
settings as your regular web account on our server. Like
your standard web hosting account, the default document on the
secure server is "index.html". Any other
web documents can use the .htm or .html extensions. You may name
a single secure document index.html as a default page for your
secure site if you wish to have one.
Depending upon the secure hosting plan
which you have signed up for, you will either upload your web
pages to your secure account via FTP or Microsoft®
FrontPage®. In your secure directory you may place
any documents or forms that you feel require an added degree of
security. Order forms or sales forms are very good candidates
for this.
