Creating a new System DSN on a Windows 2000 Server

These instructions can be used for creating a System DSN on your local computer or on your dedicated server on our Network.

If you have a web site on a shared hosting server and need a DSN added on the server where your hosting account resides, you can submit a request to have a server administrator on our support staff configure it it for you.

  1. Open the control panel and choose Administrative Tools

  2. From the Administrative Tools folder, choose Data Sources (ODBC)

  3. Next, add a System DSN by clicking on he Add button on the screen below:

  4. After clicking the Add button, you will see the following screen.
Select "Microsoft Access Driver", then click the Finish button.

*Careful! Remember to choose the English version if drivers for multiple languages appear.

  5. The following screen will appear. Enter a name in the field "Data Source Name".
For example, you can name it test.  Then click on the "Select" button to choose an Access database.

  6. The "Select database" dialog will appear.  Navigate to the directory where your database is located, choose the desired database file and click OK when finished.

  7. Click the OK button again to close the "ODBC Microsoft Access Database" dialog box. You should now see a System DSN listed for "test" in the alphabetical list of DSNs:

  8. Click OK again to close the ODBC Data Source Administrator.
    That's it.  You are finished!
